The constant shortage in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in one sense somewhat bewildering, in one way or another.
In years before now, the area was a site where several South Africans would vacation to disappear from the extremely restricted rules on gaming (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. Thus, you could expect somewhat of a developing area to oblige that tourist sector.
But, perhaps it isn’t really a surprise. The country is one of the most barren on the planet, having been through a horrible civil war (followed by shattering floods) from which it is still, very slowly, coming around. This might make a region less of a vacation focal point, even though there is now a thriving ambiance along several of the region’s breathtaking beaches.
It is added to that valid that regionally at least, Mozambique’s casinos have had to contend with casinos in the recently liberalized South Africa, which comprises of the prominent Sun City founded by the Kerzner family establishment.

While the country is improbable to ever regain its reputation as a focal point for partying South Africans, as there are now other choices closer to home for them to oblige in, the advancement of a long distance tourism sector is being set-up. This would be to satisfy Europeans wanting winter sun, as an escape from the dreariness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Plus, of course, the finest prawns (shrimp) worldwide come from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
