There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is banned. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous comforts on top of the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
