There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
